- Family 1: Mariam 9 year old Iraqi refugee blinded and developed Type 1 Diabetes after watching her mother be tortured and murdered by a Militia group who detained Mariam, her baby sister Fatima and their mother for being Suni Muslims. Their father who was also detained and tortured was not released in time to save Mariams mother , his life was spared because fighting broke out around the prison and he was able to save his daughters. Fatima has had lens replacement surgery after the loss of her sight and is now losing her eye sight again and the Doctors in Greece have not understood why after putting her on long waiting lists that have up to 6 months waiting times. Goodwill Caravan are raising funds to help Mariam get private consultations and procedures and to bring her to U.K for thorough medical examinations. This will not be possible without your help.
- Family 2: Disabled 6 year old Layla, born during an airstrike, her brain can not grow due to bleeding in brain and growth which is suspected to have been a result of a head injury during birth. Doctors could not tend to her because hospital was under attack, mother was also malnourished throughout pregnancy which may have contributed to disability. They have been stuck in Greece as refugees for almost 2 years with no medical intervention until we met them on one of our trips handing out aid. We are raising funds now as she is having multiple seizure episodes die to growth in brain and Layla needs medical.investigations and an operation. Goodwill Caravan are raising funds to help pay for private consultations as government hospitals have very long waiting lists and are unable to offer the procedures age needs in Greece only physio.
- Family 3:
2 blind orphaned mother and father , Iraqi Kurdish , 2 young children a 2yr old boy and 4yr old girl. Neglected not from bad parenting but because the parents are unable to help themselves. Father has a serious head injury and is partially deaf. Mother has just miscarried recently and attempted suicide. Children were taken away by force from social services yesterday.We have taken on fundraising for this family to get them a care worker for their children and someone to.clean and cook and safe ground floor housing in a facility that is catered to the blind and disabled. They need a care worker, a blind specialist and psychological intervention to help the parents cope and become independent.
