Over 75,000 refugees currently live in filthy conditions in refugee camps in Greece. 30,000 of them are children.
The war in Syria has forced millions of people to flee their homes, leaving them no choice but to take on a dangerous journey with the hope they will be able to live again normal lives.
Unfortunately, the reality when they arrive to Europe is very different from what anyone could have expected. Refugee camps are overcrowded and aid agencies overwhelmed. Refugees, particularly families and young children are particularly vulnerable in the camps, which lack basic supplies in food, medicine and shelter. Last year, thousands died as a result of the cold weather that swept across Greece.
We need YOUR HELP to make sure we can prevent unnecessary death this winter and bring some comfort to vulnerable refugees. Our work relies entirely on the donations we receive from the public. Your support means we can continue to work with the most vulnerable refugee population to provide emergency shelter, food, critical medical care and legal aid to help children be reunited with their families.
Nadia is just 9 year-old. Like any other child her age, Nadia should be going to school, play with her friends and be with a family. At this time of the year, she should be looking forward to the festivities of the next school holiday. Yet, her reality is a lot different.
Like many other refugees, Nadia and her mother had to flee their country to avoid a probable death. On their journey there, they were caught by a gang of men. They tortured Nadia’s mum and killed her in front of Nadia. The huge post traumatic shock made her go into diabetic shock and she lost her eyesight.
Our team in Greece took her under their care – providing shelter, psychological support and medical care. After several months, Nadia finally saw again.
Our team is now working hard to search for family members with whom she can be reunited and will not stop until she is safe and can live a normal life again.
This is how your donation could help:
- £10 could pay for a month supply of milk for a baby
- £20 could buy a child’s sleeping bag and keep them out of the cold this winter
- £50 could buy a bed for a child to sleep in
- £100 could feed a family of 4 for a month
Thank you for helping a refugee child this winter.
