The Palestinian refugee crisis dates back to 1948, when over 700,000 Palestinians were displaced during the creation of Israel. Today, over 5.7 million refugees live in camps across the West Bank, Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, many remaining stateless and facing harsh living conditions with limited access to basic services.
The most recent escalation, the October 2023 Gaza War, caused massive destruction, killing thousands and displacing even more, especially in Gaza’s overcrowded refugee camps.
UNRWA continues to provide vital services, but is hindered by funding shortfalls. Refugees in neighboring countries like Lebanon and Syria also face severe legal restrictions and lack opportunities. The ongoing violence and political deadlock leave Palestinian refugees trapped in a cycle of displacement, hardship, and uncertainty.
In response to the urgent need for medical and humanitarian aid in Gaza, we received substantial support from donors committed to alleviating suffering in crisis zones. This generosity enabled us to initiate a vital project in collaboration with local partners in Gaza and Egypt:
War has disrupted education, leaving 625,000 Gaza children without schooling. In Egypt, 6,000 Palestinian students risk expulsion due to lost income after the October 2023 attacks.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Sudanese have fled to Egypt, struggling to rebuild their lives. Our mission is to support their integration and offer hope for a better future.
