New Film Sheds Light on the Harrowing Journey of Trafficked Individuals from Pakistan to Europe

Goodwill Caravan is proud to announce it sponsored a compelling short film produced by Thinking Dots in Pakistan. This poignant 25-minute Urdu film (with English subtitles), which premiered on 3rd October at 4 PM in Karachi, described the grim realities of human trafficking from Pakistan to the European Union and the United Kingdom.

An Insightful Premiere with Noteworthy Attendees

The premiere was an enlightening experience, featuring discussions with diverse attendees, including police officials, human rights activists, and media representatives. The film interviewed survivors who shared their heart-wrenching stories, providing a firsthand account of the false promises of employment abroad, which led them to pay exorbitant sums to traffickers—only to be extorted for more money at various stages of their journey.

Many of these individuals faced harrowing ordeals at borders in Iran, Turkey, and Greece, often being detained and subsequently deported back to Pakistan. Their narratives are not just stories of financial exploitation but also highlight the severe risks involved in such journeys, including life-threatening conditions and the tragic loss of fellow travellers.

Highlighting a Major Maritime Tragedy

In a particularly sombre recount, the film will also touch upon one of the deadliest incidents involving migrants: the 2023 capsizing of a ship destined for Libya to Italy, which resulted in the loss of over 700 lives, including many Pakistanis. This catastrophe showcases the perilous nature of the migrant journey across the Mediterranean, often undertaken in desperate hope for a safer, better life.
