Summer Language Courses and a New High Priority Case for our Core Action Triangle – GWC Weekly Blog Posts
Goodwill Caravan’s projects on emergency aid distributions, sheltering the most vulnerable, and legal and medical support continue to provide relief for displaced populations across Greece. This past week our education initiatives were a point of emphasis. Starting this month, we are offering a 30-day beginner course for adults in Greek language at our centre in coordination with the Greek Ministry of Education. This course complements our long-standing English language lessons currently held at our shelter.
Our Head of Operations, Marta De Aguinada, also had a chance to meet with representatives from Greek Ministry of Education to discuss our future programmes for busing refugee school children and refugee adult learners. Both teams in Greece and London have been busy readying grant proposals to help launch this school transport programme for the upcoming school year this fall.

This week our team also visited a 5-year-old child with severe medical problems at the Aghia Sophia Children Hospital in Athens. This individual suffers from neurological problems which impact his motor skills, including his ability to swallow, making him highly dependent on caregivers. He had been in the hospital for 13 days when we were put into contact with him and his family. This boy’s mother and two siblings currently live in Eleonas camp in Athens and will soon face eviction. They’ve had 4 total rejections for asylum and face difficulties accessing medical care due to these legal issues.
Goodwill Caravan has committed to deploying our core action triangle of emergency shelter, legal and medical support to assist this 5-year-old boy and his family. Our Legal team has also begun to apply to the relocation program, as doctors have advised that he will likely need more specialized treatment outside of the country. This is new case for Goodwill Caravan that will be treated with high priority. Updates to follow.
